Carlo Ruetz

Carlo Ruetz

It was a breakthrough by name, and by nature. By 2013, Carlo Ruetz had been playing twisted technoid minimal for a decade, but it was his debut longplayer of that year Breakthrough that launched him into the spotlight. Within 24 hours of its release the album crashed into the top spot of Beatport’s minimal techno chart, and it remained in pole position for weeks. It also caught the discerning ear of Richie Hawtin. Since that unmissable moment, Carlo has only gathered more and more momentum; acclaimed EPs for MINUS, DEEPERFECT and KD MUSIC, alongside memorable performances at international Minus showcases and Richie Hawtin’s essential Ibiza night ENTER. Unique in sound and in situation, Carlo Ruetz is the ‘overnight sensation’ born of ten years in the trenches of the underground.

Rostockbred Carlo became fascinated by the sound of music at an early age. In his youth he was often the last person on the dancefloor in the early hours, and in 2001 he bought his first turntables and mixer, built a small studio in his parents’ attic, and recorded his first set to tape. His devotion to the minimalist aesthetic was forged in these early sets, and continues it continues to be his calling card. Carlo adopted a DJ alias “Jason Wawn” and soon became a regular fixture of clubs and open air parties in northern Germany. With his horizons broadening further, and after stepping out from behind the mask to embrace his real name, Carlo Ruetz went on to blaze the stage at ENTER. Ibiza at Space, FUSE Brussels, TOFFLER Rotterdam, 10 DAYS OFF The Last Waltz Ghent, and a 2015 tour through India.

Carlo began writing his own compositions in 2010, inspired by artists like Heinrichs & Hirtenfellner, Daniel Steinberg and Magda, and the following year he made a successful debut with I’m Fucking Famous. Handmade EP through Alfred Heinrichs and his homebaselabel Supdub followed, with further releases for Moonplay Records and Slaap Records, before the gamechanging arrival of Breakthrough through Supdub Digitales in March 2013.

Carlo Ruetz is Known for starting from scratch with every production, mining deep for unexpected sounds and arrangements, and taking compelling bends and turns while in the DJ booth. It’s no surprise that Richie Hawtin counts Carlo Ruetz as part of the new Minus generation. With forthcoming heat lined up with future releases, and more clubs and festivals switching on to the distinctive Carlo Ruetz sound, expect to hear more from this overnight veteran who exists at the leading edge of minimalism and techno.

Markantonio

Markantonio

Markantonio is one of the most leading and renewed djs of the International techno scene. Flagship of Naples circuits, Markantonio starts playing with decks since he was fifteen; only four years later his talent explode in the beating planet at the feet of Vesuvius! So, in late 90’s Markantonio’s name spread around and enter the most exciting parties of Naples while record labels like Recycled Loops, Shake rec, Tortured, Conform, Superbra, get very fascinated by his tracks. In 1999, the ep “Fried Mix” in cooperation with Davide Squillace marks his official entrance into the music world and later soon comes “Appendix A”, the first record produced on Southsoul Appendix label.
Markantonio has a special music taste, always careful about techno universe changing’s. His performances convey a rare energy made of a soft fusion of high bpm beats and acid funky, which create shrill grooves and bass lines. One of his attitudes is the use of three decks together with his talent for a strong alteration of the sound in his rhythmic combinations, likewise, the ability to smooth down any melody element, through a clever use of the mixer Xone 92.
The pleasure of working with big artists like Rino Cerrone, Davide Squillace , Paco Osuna, Valentino Kanzyani, The Advent, Ignition Technician and many others, makes him improve again his skills. Thus, in 2001 Markantonio create Analytic Trail, his own record label through which he develops and enclose all his expanding potential. Besides from Cerrone, Osuna and Squillace, the Label gets also gradually other rising talents like Luigi Madonna, Flavo Diaz, Alberto Pascual, Alessio Mereu, Simone Tavazzi, important international techno artists like Joseph Capriati and foreign producers such as the duo Collins & Behnam or the high-flying Hans Bouffmyher. Markantonio Analytic Trail opening ep “The Beginning”, shows soon a powerful technoid charm while the second ep “Subsequent ep”, together with his friend Rino Cerrone, is an a high-spirited one. “Percussion Mission” embody Markantonio tribal mood, then “Atome ep” with the legendary Paco Osuna, gives further glamour to the label, enlarging his importance. Finally the ep “Total Impact” confirm, once again, the good relationship with Rino Cerrone. Analytic Trail music form gain energy from all the dj set lived not only on the electronic sets of Naples, but also all around Europe and then as far as the Old World.
About 30 production released in ten years, highlight a solid and lasting power. Every single rhythm section is characterized by an obsessive care to details and sounds. This project uses its energy vocation in the research of a groove with effect on techno music; it’s an idea, an expressive urge which has risen the interest of the most electronic artist of new millennium. Just of great relevance “Molotov” composed by Markantonio and Joseph Capriati, was played even by Richie Hawtin in Love Parade opening in Berlin. Then, also a substantial distribution both for vinyl and digital with the aim of supporting their releases with a massive promotion. The motto is: “Groovey tracks engineered for the dancefloor“! The desire of join past and present, techno and minimal-house, acid and electro-funk, leads to the creation of a second record label MKT, with the first ep “Future Shock” by Markantonio – confirming his high production capacity. Then, in 2007 the cooperation with Mauro Picotto and Riccardo Ferri’s record label – Alchemy, marks his landing on Ibiza and in 2008 Markanotnio performs with “Analytic Trail” showcase at the celebrated Privilege. Joseph Capriati will join him also in the production of “Codice Morse” and “Molotov EP”.
Summer is close and the first official compilation is produced for the best club of south of Italy “La Vecchia Fattoria“, meanwhile follow several productions of minimal – techno music for both MKT and Analytic Trail. At the same time many works are carried out abroad such as two releases on Alchemy Rec, excellent remixes like “Happily” with Capriati, “Pepperoni” with Cristian Varela and the recent “Airtight” of the duo-trio Deepgroove & Jamie Anderson. Equally, Markantonio attends at many important festivals like Cramfield, Awakenings and the illustrious Electrobeach of Benidorm and his tracks appear on great success compilations such as “I Love Techno 3 – Dance Club”, “Essential Underground Vol. 09”, “U60311 Compilation Techno Division Vol. 5”, “Amnesia Ibiza Sessions Vol 8”, “United DJs Vol.3”.
Markantonio plays all around Europe, through his ability to meet any clubber needs and more, his talent in managing, with glamour and elegance, the tech-house minimal appeal.
Recently, Markantonio has also carried out the project “Junction Hands” born in 2006 in collaboration with Rino Cerrone, as divertissement in several happenings. The idea to “cross their hands” seems almost a provocation, a new challenge, again, launched through the awareness of their own resources and an unlimited inspiration. From this project has been created the namesake track included in the various artists “Napoli Connection” on Drumcode and the ep “Revolution is back” produced by Unrilis. In addition to the already proven duo, here comes the rampant Joseph Capriati. The three guys combine all their technical expertise through a mega show, called “Neapolitan Gangsta”. This is a real techno band promising sparks in the best international circuits!

Argenis Brito

Argenis Brito

Born in Venezuela, Argenis Brito is one of South America’s most diverse and experienced musicians and anything but your average live set. His long history in the music business has culminated in him becoming an international touring artist of solid underground repute in the last 10 years, taking him to every major clubbing destination across the globe, as well as cementing his position as an in-demand producer, proven by a multitude of releases on labels like Crosstown Rebels, Cadenza, Dame Music, Mobilee, Tuning Spork and Contexterrior amongst many others. A true musician, setting him aside from the crowd, Argenis continues to flourish as a curator and entertainer of boundary pushing electronic sounds.

A resident in Berlin since 2002, after stints in New York and Santiago de Chile during the 90s, he has proven to be a core part of the ever growing scene there, finding time to play at all the major clubs in between his international tours to South America, the United States, Japan or closer to home across Europe. Thanks to the development of his live act, with performance typified by often unreleased music unique to each gig, and crossing a spectrum of influence from latin music to dub, house and techno, he has been able to ensure that his performance avoids the traps of a monotonous or repetitive sound.

The breakthrough moment in Argenis’ transition from past musical experiences into his current love with electronic experimentalism came in 2006 with his double EP ‘Micro Mundo’ on Cadenza; elevating him to many high profile gigs across the world, including several Circoloco events. Since then, following extensive studio work as producer, vocalist, collaborator, remixer or a combination of everything on the most highly sought imprints around, including most recently in 2011, Crosstown Rebels and Dame Music.

2012 sees him on the cusp of the most productive period of his career, with a new Mambotur album set for release together with Pier Bucci in spring, a new Los Refrescos album scheduled with Dandy Jack, a further solo album and countless collaborations, such as with Dinky, Mike Shannon, David Delgado and also Ricardo Villalobos with whom he has been making some really interesting sounds such as the Peculiar track released earlier in 2011 on Sei Es Drum. This is all preceded with a fresh South American tour at the start of 2012, taking Argenis back to his homeland and the source of his inspiration for his particular sound.

Argenis was instrumental in his work with Señor Coconut, Tobias Freund and Jorge Gonzalez, where he pioneered the use of Latin American sounds and rhythms in the context of contemporary dance music. The significance of this came from the early 2000s when eventually Argenis, Pier Bucci, and also Luciano, perfected this style before making it the defining sound of underground by the end of the decade.

PAST EVENTS

Mirko Loko

Mirko Loko

Mirko Loko’s passion for music has led him on an upward trajectory ever since he first started DJing in the late ‘90s clubs of Lausanne. Based at the crossroads between Detroit-inspired techno and the stripped-down-yet-jacked-up side of house, his music is that of diversity and subtlety. It’s high-class yet low-slung, a hypnotic collage sewn together by shifting layers of darkness and light.

Mirko’s impressive discography has spanned such labels as Cocoon, Border Community, Wagon Repair, Planet E, Desolat, and Visionquest.
This is not to mention his collaborative work with Detroit’s Stacey Pullen, and his remixes of everyone from Martina Topley-Bird (Massive Attack) to Layo & Bushwacka. He’s also been on the receiving end of the remix treatment from such techno titans as Carl Craig and Ricardo Villalobos.

Born in 1979 in Lausanne, Mirko has always loved music. After DJing in clubs, Couleur3 (Swiss national radio) snapped him up as a DJ and programme planner between 1997 and 2001. During this time he continued DJing nationally but also started performing internationally at places like Rex in Paris, DC 10 IBIZA, Tresor Berlin or Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Streetparade in Zurich, and In 2003 he became artistic programmer at Loft Club in Lausanne. He then met Raphael Gros and together they formed Lazy Fat People, a production unit that was to impact heavily over the next few years. Their debut, ‘Big City’, came out in 2006 on James Holden’s Border Community.

From there tracks spilled across other labels, including Mathew Jonson’s Wagon Repair and Carl Craig’s Planet E. There were remixes too, like their reworking of Daniel Bell’s ‘Science Fiction’ and Oliver Lieb’s ‘Isotropy’, and not forgetting the sublime C2 remix of Fat Lazy People’s ‘Pixelgirl’. However, in 2007, at the height of their success, the duo decided to go their separate ways. So Mirko continued remixing for Tania Vulcano and Tato’s IsGud as well as Alexkid’s Imprimé Records.
Between 2007 and 2009 he was also assistant programmer for the electronic side of Montreux Jazz Festival. Yet something else was brewing: it was big. It was the ‘Mousa Big Band’ track, Mirko’s collaboration with Cadenza boss Luciano, included on their Family EP and released on Loco Dice’s Desolat, alongside Mirko’s own productions ‘Liah’ and ‘Serena’. This period also marked the beginning of his presence in Ibiza, and before long he was appearing regularly at the legendary Circoloco at DC-10.

In 2009 Cadenza released Mirko’s debut solo album – Seventynine. It proved to be both a timely tribute to his inspirations and a testament to his own journey through music.
There was a new influx of shows across the globe, from Space Miami to Monegros in Spain, Lowlands in the Netherlands, Summer Sonic in Japan, Creamfields in the UK, and Sonofilia in Mexico. And an innovative new venture with Luciano and the Cadenza family was born: a live ‘visual music’ performance named Æther, which premiered in the summer of 2009.

2010 saw Mirko remix Layo & Bushwacka’s ‘The Longest Day’ on Olmeto, Ghost Dancer’s ‘Home’ on Panorama, and dOP’s ‘Assurance Vie’ on Circus Company. This was the time of his Seventynine Remixes project, with remixes by Carl Craig on ‘Love Harmonic’ and Ricardo Villalobos on ‘Tahktok’. Mirko became a professional ‘Vagabundo’ with Cadenza in Ibiza – a journey that continued in 2011. In 2012 he laid down an original collaboration with Stacey Pullen on the Deux Éléments EP (‘Formulaic Mode’/‘Tronic Illusion’) for Cadenza. He also remixed Martina Topley-Bird’s ‘Baby Blue’. ‘Gloria’ made its way to onto Shaun Reeves, Ryan Crosson and Lee Curtis, Seth Troxler’ Visionquest imprint. Various new partnerships have recently been formed with experimental pianist and composer Francesco Tristano, and Jow from dOP.

In 2013, Mirko released some of his strongest techno material yet, some of which was included in the Cadenza 10 Year Anniversary and Vagabundos 2013 Volume II compilations. His hectic tour schedule only seemed to increase as well, being hosted by many of the world’s biggest electronic music events and club brands, such as Time Warp, Cocoon Ibiza, Sonus Festival, B.P.M, Richie Hawtin’s Enter at Space, or Carl Cox’s Music is Revolution.

2015, Mirko released his second “Comet Plan” with remix from sebastian Mulleart, Brett Jonson and Carl Craig. Then he create his own festival called “Polaris” in the prestigious ski ressort of Verbier. This event is already considerate as one of the best event in Switzerland.

Stacey Pullen

Stacey Pullen

Stacey Pullen is an innovator from the second wave of Detroit techno; he grew up under the mentorship of Detroit’s legendary three: Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson. Still continuing to produce his characteristic atmosphere laden electronic sound, Stacey Pullen compounds his reputation as a producer with that of being one of the world’s most in demand DJs. Above all, from his earliest attempts to the current day Stacey Pullen has stayed true to his one goal: to become and to always be an Innovator.
In the early days, through legenday Detroit club “The Music Institute”, Stacey quickly got to know the leading lights of Detroit’s underground: Alton Miller, Chez Damier, Derrick May, and Jay Denham who influenced and taught him strongly.
A couple of years later, in 1992, Derrick suggested that a good way to develop his skills would be for Stacey to do some remix work with Kevin Saunderson. Stacey began to work on remixes including one for Karen White ‐’The Way I Feel About You’, for Prodigy and KMS – just to name a few. Thus Stacey truly became part of the Transmat / Metroplex / KMS team.
After touring Europe with Derrick May all of 1993, Stacey moved back to Detroit, ready to establish himself and start his own label. Throughout 1994 he commuted between Europe and the USA, finishing the Silent Phase album on R & S. Releases like ‘The Sphinx’ as Bango and the first Silent Phase album on Transmat followed as well as a couple of releases on Plink Plonk by the alias ‘Kosmik Messenger’ and ‘Eye to Eye and ‘Flash’ ‐ both released in 1995.
In 1998 Stacey was invited to produce his very first major label release on Virgin Records, and at the same time opened the label he had wanted to start for about three years, ‘BlackFlag‘.
Its debut release, Black Odyssey‘s „Sweat“, was considered a future classic. The pseudonym under which Stacey recorded also dropped the labels second release „Stand“. Both found great success and went on to be licensed to a number of compilation albums, including Stacey‘s „Fabric 14“ mix compilation.
Around that time, Stacey took a break from recording and spent the next years concentrating mainly on furthering his own musical education and Djing.
2011 sees Stacey still on the road, bringing his signature eclecticism to some lucky parts of the planet. As a result, every set becomes more personalized, more unique, a window into Stacey’s musical passions. With Black Flag resurrected, 2010’s hit “Alive” is now followed up by “Get Up” in April 2011.
„I wanted to create a clean palette of ‚beats‘ music. Programming it to deliver a serious groove that would keep on coming, progressing and leaving you wanting more.“ Yes, please.”
